The film The Great Ruaha River captures how poor Environmental Management at the source of one of Tanzania’s major rivers has huge effects for communities and wildlife living downstream, as well as for all of Tanzania. The movie exemplifies a current situation that can be seen happening right across the continent, and also many other nations around the world. Two thousand copies of this film have been distributed in East Africa, in English and Kiswahili.
The film was viewed by senior officials of the Tanzanian Government and was partially responsible for their implementation of a conservation and rehabilitation project for the Usangu Swamp, the vital headwaters of the Ruaha River. This film is still being quoted from and is beingused as a key document in the on-going disputes about water in the region.
