The Eco Design Initiative is a South African non profit organization with the main objective to develop opportunities for youth entrepreneurship in the field of sustainable design. Through facilitating skills and culture sharing amongst global youth, the Initiative aims to raise awareness and understanding about sustainable design as a precursor to environmental, social and economic wellbeing.

The Initiative is activated through three primary platforms:

Educate / Exchange / Exhibit

Educate: The annual Eco Design Competition and Sustainable Design Road Show in South Africa fit into the educational programme, as these reach young designers, students, educators and informal creative communities. Through participation, everyone gains access to information and inspiration for Sustainable Design.

Exchange: This skills and culture share experience is designed as active participatory learnin. The Fresh Talent Exchange includes a social design intervention hosted in South Africa as well as an exchange visit to Sweden as an opportunity to observe and learn about sustainability in action.

Exhibit: The “no kak” Sustainable Design Showcase allows a public participation in the campaign. This international exhibition, staged across South Africa and Sweden is a captavating story teller and window into the cultures of people at opposite sides of the world!
